Sarah Durlofsky's 5 Things That Changed History
1. First Oxygen Breathing Organism
Scientist do not know much about the first oxygen breathing organisms, but we do know that these small organisms were strong enough to reproduce. These organisms, although very weak, somehow found enough energy to survive by living next to water and wetlands. Without these vital organisms, evolution would have gone in a completely slower and different direction.
2. First True Man, Home Erectus.
The Homo erectus was the first man to evolve upright. The Homo erectus survived until about 300,000 years ago and the earliest fossil of the Homo erectus was found to be 1.8 million years old. Without this extreme change in evolution, humans today would have many different physical and mental features.
3. Oldest Known Written Record
The oldest written record were on bone and were notations about the lunar cycle. These records were found in Europe. Without the creation of writing, humans would have very little or no way of recording anything.
4. Jericho, Oldest Known City
Jericho is the oldest known city and has been settled for 11,000 years. Jericho is in Palestine's western Jordan River Valley and is six miles away from the Dead Sea. Jericho is a very important part of history because it is the time known to humans today that people lived in a town or a city. Without the start of cities like Jericho, people today would most only likely be living near no one or their immediate family.
5. Christian Era Begins
The Christian era began in 1 CE, the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus believed in a more reform version of Judaism, he believed in kindness towards others was more important than doing every single rule in the Torah. Christ's teachings changed the culture of Rome, and the whole world. Jesus' teachings are still extremely prominent in the culture today. Christianity is still today the world's largest religion with a 2.1 billion followers!
