1.    The first true man, homo erectus emerges in East Indies and Africa (1.5 million years ago).

Without the evolution of the upright man, beginning with homo erectus, we would not be in

existance. Therefore, homo erectus began mankind, changing the history of the world.

2.     Man learns to control and use fire (800 thousand years ago). Without the knowledge of

how to control and use fire, mankind would not have lasted. Fire gave mankind heat, light,

and a way to cook their food. It developed mankind.

3.     Agriculture begins to replace hunting in Europe (6000 B.C.). Without agriculture, mankind

would have died out long ago. Being able to grow crops and raise animals gave man more

certainty that they would have food. If they didn’t have a good hunt or they scared the

animals away, they were left with little or no food. Learning to cultivate crops and raise their

animals gave mankind more assurance that they had a plentiful food supply.

4.    Pyramids built in Egypt (2700 B.C.). Without the completion of the construction of the

pyramids, our modern architecture would not be as advanced. The construction of the

pyramids marked the beginning of an intellectually advanced period. The science needed to

build such wonders was much more advanced than in prior years and therefore helped to

       advance our society.

5.    Phoenicians develop modern alphabet (900 B.C.). Without the development of the modern

alphabet, we would not have a practical, easy way to write and communicate. Writing

became an important way to communicate, therefore, with a system of letters rather than

hieroglyphs or pictographs, writing became easier to read and interpret.
