Rachel Dichter's Five Significant Events in World History

1. Creation of the Earth- 4.5 billion years ago
In our entire history, the creation of the earth is by and large the most significant event that has taken place. Without the earth to precede us, there would be no possibility of life, and all the other important events in our history would be rendered insignificant.

As the reader saw in The Inheritors, a crucial factor in the success of the homo sapiens was their sophisticated weaponry.  The oldest known tool fashioned by man in Africa was an important event, as it began the evolution of simple tools into the complex weapons. These weapons would later contribute to the Homo Sapiens' survival as a species.
Another essential development in human history was the emergence of the first true man, Homo Erectus.  Homo Erectus set the stage for even further evolution as a species, and is an integral part of why Homo Sapiens are the way they are today.
Fire is an indispensable resource that once domesticated, brought the human potential to new heights.  With fire, Homo Sapiens became capable of cooking their meat, keeping warm in the winter, and making even stronger tools.  In short, the use of fire allowed humans to evolve further and build civilization.

The invention of the wheel was a fundamental progression in human history.  It simplified the transition of heavy objects and made the first methods of world travel possible.  With the wheel, humans were opened up to a new world of convenient transport.
